Photographer ROSS HALFIN Reveals Why His Photos Aren't Included In METALLICA Book
August 25, 2004Legendary rock photographer Ross Halfin has posted the following message in the "Diary" section of his web site:
"Got 'So What', the new OFFICIAL METALLICA book by my old mate, Steffan 'Cheesey' Chirazi. Now, a few months ago, I had a very nice e-mail from Steffan. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to work out that he wanted pictures for this book. I spoke to Tony DiCioccio at Q Prime (they manage METALLICA),who told me they wanted to use my stuff in the book, but had no budget. I pointed out that I own my photos, he said Lars [Ulrich] didn't think so. However, according to copyright law, Lars is mistaken, hence....no photos of mine in the book. The book isn't bad if you want to know what METALLICA did from 'Load' onwards....funniest part is my old mate Cheesey's thank-you list. He thanks managers, lawyers, tour managers, security, the crew and even Anton Corbijin, obviously a good mate of Cheesey's, as hardly anything of Anton's is in there — must be the budget! [Former Kerrang! magazine editor] Geoff Barton had a good chuckle at this as well....as the Official METALLICA Illustrated Chronicle book's called 'So What'...."
